Kieran Harty CEO & Chairman

Kieran was previously Executive Vice President of R&D at VMware for seven years, where he was responsible for all products. He led the delivery of the first and subsequent releases of ESX Server, Virtual Center and VMware’s desktop products. Before VMware, he was Vice President of R&D at Visigenic/Borland and Chief Scientist at TIBCO. Kieran has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin.

Dr. Forest Baskett Board Member & NEA General Partner

Forest joined NEA in 1999 as a Venture Partner and became a General Partner in 2004. He focuses on information and energy technology investments and presently holds board memberships with Aprius, Chelsio Communications, Fulcrum Microsystems, Fusion-io, Luxtera, SiBEAM and Tableau Software among others. In the past he has worked with Atheros Communications, Data Domain, and RingCube Technologies among others. Prior to NEA, Forest was Senior Vice President of R&D and Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Graphics Inc. He founded and directed the Western Research Laboratory of Digital Equipment Corporation from 1982 to 1986 before joining SGI. Prior to that, as a Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, he worked with Andy Bechtolsheim on the SUN workstation project, with Jim Clark on the Geometry Engine project, and with John Hennessy on the MIPS microprocessor project. Dr. Baskett received a BA in Mathematics from Rice University, a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Pete Sonsini Board Member & NEA Partner

Pete joined NEA in 2005, specializing in software, systems and technology-enabled services companies. His current board memberships include DeviceVM, Engine Yard, and Eucalyptus Systems, among others. Previous boards include XenSource (acquired by Citrix Systems) and Teracent (acquired by Google). Pete also serves on the board of the Software Development Forum (www.sdform.org).

Prior to joining NEA, Pete was Senior Director of Strategic Alliances at VMware where he struck the company’s OEM deals and grew annual sales through OEMs from $0 to $40 million in four years. Prior to VMware, Pete was one of the first hires on the business side at Mirapoint, where he ran product management. Pete also served in various sales and marketing positions in Hewlett-Packard’s server division, including Worldwide Product Manager for the mid-range server business. Pete began his career at Montgomery Securities where he was an Associate in the firm’s Technology Corporate Finance group. Pete received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and his BA in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley, where he lettered in varsity rugby and was a member of the national championship team.

Chris Schaepe Board Member & Lightspeed Venture Partners Managing Director

Chris is a founder of Lightspeed, covering infrastructure technologies and services. He has eighteen years of venture capital experience and four years of operating experience. Prior to Lightspeed, Chris served in corporate finance and capital markets roles at Goldman, Sachs & Co. Previously, he was a software engineer at IBM. Chris has frequently been named to the Forbes Midas List of top venture capital investors. He serves on a number of private company boards and one public board, Riverbed Technology, Inc., and was responsible for other investments including Brocade. Chris holds BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from Stanford University.

Ken Klein Board Member & President of Wind River Systems

Ken Klein is a software industry veteran with over 20 years of experience.  He is currently President of Wind River where he is responsible for the management of 1,460 employees in 15 countries. Previously, Ken served as Chief Operating Officer and a board member of Mercury Interactive for 12 years. Klein and his team built Mercury from a pre-revenue startup into a software powerhouse with a peak market capitalization of $15B, 2,150 employees, operations in 35 countries, and membership in the NASDAQ 100 and S&P 500. The team went on to grow the company to nearly $1B in annual revenue and to sell to Hewlett-Packard for $5B. Before his tenure at Mercury, Klein held various engineering, marketing, and management roles at Interactive Development Environments, Daisy Systems, and Hughes Aircraft Company.

Mr. Klein earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering from the University of Southern California. He is a USC Distinguished Alumnus, member of the USC School of Engineering Board of Councilors, founder of USC’s Klein Institute for Undergraduate Engineering Life (KIUEL), and a USC Trustee. He also serves on the boards of G2 Technology and Meltwater Group.
