TIBCO had virtualized some of its IT infrastructure and wanted to extend this process to enable a virtualized disaster recovery capability. TIBCO’s ERP financial reporting system had been initially virtualized using x86 blade servers and a high-end FC SAN. Benchmark tests revealed that this approach was too slow to serve as a viable backup to the production system.
TIBCO re-ran the ERP test, using the same application server and database, but replaced the existing SAN with a Tintri VMstore. Performance increased dramatically with the virtualized instance running at parity with the production system. TIBCO saw other benefits as well: the 1 TB database consumed less than 180 GB of flash on the Tintri VMstore. “Tintri makes flash performance affordable,” said St. Onge. “The results of this experiment opened a lot of eyes at TIBCO.”
