Washington State University’s College of Engineering and Architecture Overcomes VDI Storage Performance Challenges

Washington State University (WSU) is a nationally recognized public research university that enrolls more than 26,000 students. In addition to the Pullman campus, WSU has campuses in Spokane, the Tri-Cities, and Vancouver.

The College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) at WSU wanted to virtualize student desktops to deliver a cost-effective and secure environment while reducing operating costs. Initial attempts to deploy a VDI solution were not successful, as existing storage could not provide the needed performance.

The server environment is 99 percent virtualized. The CEA team needed a storage solution that could provide both the performance and management necessary for VDI.
