Tintri takes Enterprise Cloud to new heights with latest launch
Tintri defines Enterprise Cloud with new launch, including the new Tintri Cloud Connector and updates to Tintri Analytics, Tintri VM Scale-Out, storage migration and machine learning.
With the new Tintri Cloud Connector, customers can tightly integrate their Tintri footprint into their AWS or IBM COS instances.
New machine learning and storage migration technologies continue to make Tintri the most efficient way to manage your cloud.
VM-level analytics and management unlock truly accurate per-workload performance consumption.
Today we announced a slew of new capabilities that advance enterprise cloud. We’ve been using the term enterprise cloud for some time now, but I think we’ve been a little understated.
Here’s the reality: other providers are “enterprise cloud” in name alone. Only Tintri can deliver on the definition of enterprise cloud. And with this latest release, we’ve taken cloud capabilities even further.
Below, I’ll summarize how this launch separates Tintri’s approach to cloud from the competition. Meanwhile, other team members have written a blog series that go into more details on new products and capabilities:
Cloud Connector – jump-start hybrid cloud services by tying Tintri to AWS and IBM Cloud Object Storage
Compute Analytics– extend Tintri’s unmatched predictive power from storage to compute
Scale-Out– build for the future with the only platform that scales to 480,000 virtual machines
Machine learning – learn how Tintri applies machine learning to QoS, analytics and more
I’m proud of the thoughtfulness and energy we’ve put into these releases—and our North Star is the definition of enterprise cloud offered by the governing body in this space: The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST).
NIST has determined that for an enterprise cloud to support BOTH enterprise applications and cloud native applications, it must connect to public cloud and deliver on five pillars:
Broad network access
(Guess what platform NIST chose to meet those five pillars for their own data center.)
Only by meeting the above can a platform deliver the scale and agility of public cloud with the control of cost and performance only possible in the data center. And so Tintri has committed to innovating along these dimensions. Let me point out how today’s release reinforces our strengths:
Public Cloud Connector
NIST recognizes that most enterprises will operate a multi-cloud environment, so it’s imperative that on-premises enterprise cloud tie into public cloud. Today, Tintri announces its Cloud Connector, which tightly integrates our customers’ Tintri footprint into their AWS or IBM Cloud Object Storage (COS) instances.
Now—for example—customers can use AWS or IBM COS for the data protection, archive, and disaster recovery of their mission critical on-premises applications. And because Tintri boasts VM-level data transfer, plus de-dupe and compression, you’re not moving around unnecessary bulk.
That means you can restore an individual application from AWS or IBM COS to Tintri in a single click—faster and more efficiently than with any other solution. Why pay more for moving and storing unnecessary data?
Want numbers? ESG’s preliminary analysis shows that organizations using Tintri Enterprise Cloud with Tintri Cloud Connector can:
Slash administrative costs by 72% compared to traditional solutions
Lower cloud storage and data egress costs by an estimated 80-88%
We’ve been too humble about Tintri’s Analytics capabilities for far too long. I’ll put a stake in the ground—we offer by far the most complete and accurate analytics in our market.
Tintri Analytics let you see latency—in real-time—across compute, network and storage for every single one of your virtual machines. We are the only platform that can see across your entire infrastructure, because we are the only platform with an architecture that operates at the VM and container level. And we’ve offered this capability since we launched our first product in 2011.
Even now, it’s one that no one else can deliver.
Tintri Analytics has unmatched predictive power. We use historical data about the actual performance of all your virtual machines to determine precisely when you will need more capacity, performance and working set … up to 18 months into the future. You can even model what-if scenarios to assess the impact of adding another 100 virtual desktops or 10 development servers before you deploy a thing. We’ve basically eliminated over-provisioning of storage for our customers.
Now, we’ve extended that power to compute. We’re applying our same Apache Spark, Elasticsearch and machine learning algorithms to show you exactly how compute is performing and to determine when you will need to invest in more compute to accommodate growth. No bones about it: Tintri is the only enterprise cloud platform with this completeness and visibility.
Finally, I’ll highlight our advances in the resource pooling and elasticity pillars. With today’s launch, we’ve expanded our ability to pool resources to 64 Tintri storage systems. That means our customers can start as small as 17 TB and scale up to 20 PB of all-flash storage and manage up to 480,000 virtual machines from a single console.
Other providers that claim enterprise cloud only scale to a few thousand virtual machines—not nearly enough to claim “web-scale” or to accommodate the needs of modern enterprises.
And with Tintri, adding storage resources remains as simple as adding compute. Simply plug in and configure additional Tintri systems. Our machine learning algorithms will automatically optimize the placement of every virtual machine across your newly expanded footprint.
Plus, migrating running applications between Tintri arrays is now between 10X to 30X faster than other platforms, reducing hours to minutes and saving 95 percent or more of your bandwidth.
There’s even more to today’s news. We’ll be talking about those in our blogs—and to see it all in action, contact your Tintri representative, or contact us directly. We’d love to show you what makes Tintri the true enterprise cloud.
Unique control with VM-level actions for infrastructure functions including snapshots, replication and QoS make protection and performance certain in production, and accelerate test and development cycles.
